RE: “‘Trashy’ Parents?”
I applaud the author for responding so thoroughly and passionately when a man called her child’s birth parents ‘trashy.’ If my husband and I experience a comment such as this, I will be prepared on how to respond. Thank you.

I would have had the person who said this over to meet my son’s birth parents. It wouldn’t take 10 minutes to see their strength, selflessness, and determination!

Wow, what a bold and inappropriate thing for him to say. Good for you. It’s so hard to respond in the moment.

RE: “First Words”
My 15-year-old came to my foster home at age six. Her first words to me were, “I want to go back to Amanda.” That was the babysitter her biological mom used and the woman who originally took the children in when they were removed from their home. From there, they moved to foster care, and then to my home. So much turmoil and upheaval for a child of six years. We adopted her and her sisters seven years ago, and, today, she’s such a well-adjusted teen. You would never know she’s been through so much nor that she hasn’t been with me her whole life.

RE: Just Say “Yes” to Positive Parenting
This is a great article that offers suggestions for ways to build in more opportunities to say yes, and to strengthen and smooth out your relationship with your teen.
