A: What a great idea! Ask the librarian whether the books can be displayed during National Adoption Awareness Month, in November. Here are some titles we recommend:

What Is Adoption?, by Sofie Stergianis and Rita McDowall, stands out in adoption literature because it’s written to a non-adopted audience. All About Adoption, by Marc Nemiroff and Jane Annunziata, and How I Was Adopted, by Joanna Cole, are also great introductions to the topic. Xinran’s Motherbridge of Love and Todd Parr’s We Belong Together are appealing celebrations of adoptive families. Star of the Week, by Darlene Friedman, describes a young girl’s creative approach to this biographical kindergarten assignment. Top off the collection with a few engaging storybooks that will delight classmates, just as they’ve enchanted our own kids. Try Jamie Lee Curtis’s Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born, Karen Katz’s Over the Moon, and Rose Lewis’s I Love You Like Crazy Cakes.
