Florida: Governor Rick Scott repealed the state’s ban on adoption by same-sex couples, but asked for future action to allow adoption agencies to refuse to place children with couples that violate their religious beliefs.
Michigan: A law passed in early June allows Christian adoption agencies—about half of all agencies in the state—to deny services to same-sex couples, unmarried couples, or any other union that goes against their religious beliefs. It is not clear how or whether the law will be enforced now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of same-sex marriage.
