Gallup’s May 8-11 Values and Beliefs survey found that the majority of Americans (63 percent) support the legal right to adopt for same-sex couples. A majority holds across all demographic groups, with 80 percent of Democrats in favor, 51 percent of Republicans, and 61 percent of independents. It also holds steady by age group. Public support for same-sex adoption has been increasing steadily since the poll began to tally results in 1992.
