RE: Adoption Cost & Timing in 2015-2016
The information from the latest Adoption Cost & Timing Survey seems discouraging to me. I’m glad I didn’t see this when I was considering adoption, or I wouldn’t have the two amazing kids that I have. For those considering adoption, keep in mind that these are averages. Explore your options and find what works for you. It’s worth every penny and every waiting day….

RE: “On Choosing, or Changing, Schools”
I think this mom should stop worrying about the school her children attend. Parents shouldn’t put their academically thriving children in a lesser academic school for them to be in a more diverse setting. There are so many other ways to accomplish this, as they are already doing. An educational foundation sets the tone for a lot. Plus, it sounded like her kids like the school. They seem to know the importance of a good education. However, I do think she needs to tell the school to stop using her children as “poster children” for diversity if she or her kids are not comfortable with it. She has that right.

My kids go to a charter prep school. Not because of academics, but because I would have feared for their vulnerability due to their developmental delays at the huge public school. A total enrollment of 300 kids vs 2,000…it seemed like a no-brainer.

RE: Television Shows That “Get” Adoption
I was excited to read about the adoption storyline on Doc McStuffins. It sounds like they covered the topic in a pretty amazing way for a TV show—the parents tell the children they are adopting a baby, and they talk about the birth parents, too. Can’t wait to watch it!

Yes! I LOVE the Dinosaur Train undertone of adoption. It’s a good way to open up the topic for kids.
